Newsletter May 2021 : St. Paul's College School Enhancement Project Fundraising Committee

  • 2021-05-13

Dear Donors,

I would like to share with you that Phase 2 of the School Enhancement Project has commenced at the beginning of April. If it goes according to plan, we will see its completion before the end of 2022.

Work is underway for the Indoor Swimming Pool and the Main Entrance. For safety reasons, the whole construction site is cordoned off, allowing no contact between the staff and students with the construction workers. As a result, the Hing Hon Road access is not available during the construction period. We will update you on the progress of the project.

As indicated in our previous Newsletter, we raised the 40 million, the threshold, required to kick start phase 2. To finish the job, an additional 70 million is needed within the next two years, with 30 million before the end of this year. We hope that with your continuous support, we can achieve our goals together.

Due to the pandemic, all lives in HK are affected and it has restricted our ability to hold any fundraising events in 2020. As the Covid-19 situation in HK is improving, the Fundraising Committee is also restarting some activities.

A sharing session for some members of the Class of 1969 was held at St. Paul’s in April, with appropriate social distancing. The program for the visit included a tour of the newly renovated classrooms, followed by Principal Yuen’s uplifting presentation of the current status/achievements of our school and his aspiration of St. Paul’s which was summarized with a Statement that embodies our heritage as well as a vision for the future. Finally, I reported to the group on the progress of the Project and the requirement of funding. I believe the gathering allowed clarification of some of the misconceptions on why the School pursue such a project and the finance needed to make it happens.

We have to thank the members of the Class of 1969 who responded by initiating a Class Gift Campaign with one member taking the lead by donating $200,000. With the pandemic situation continues to improve, more alumni will be invited to return to the campus and share their views.
