2019-04-17 Fundraising Tea Reception

To give our alumni an update on our SPC School Enhancement Project and to gain valuable opinions, the Fundraising Committee held a tea reception on April 17, 2019 at Board room on 2/F, Wong Ming Him Hall.  We invited the class coordinators in 1960s and 1970s to join this sharing session by Principal Dennis Yuen and Dr. Ian Chan, the chairman of Fundraising Committee.

Mr. Yuen shared the goals and vision of SPC and explained the trend of education, which gives rise to the urgent needs of the College:

1.   Teaching and Learning

Current school curriculum is less about memorizing than about discovery and discussion. Our classrooms, library and laboratories are built 30+ years ago when teaching was largely a one-way communication. The new campus aims to provide space that facilitates interaction and communication among teachers and students.  For example, the Library is not only a place for students to read books but it will also become a new and practical learning resource center that allows students to discuss projects and engage in small group sharing.

2.   Whole-person development

As a celebration of our diversity, SPC fields teams for inter-school competition for 13 sports. We also have a long and glorious tradition in music. At the same time, our swimming pool and sports facilities are now substandard, and we lack space and equipment for fitness training. We also do not have dedicated music facilities, especially for chamber and small group practices. The enhanced campus will cater for the training needs of our sportsmen and musicians.

Mr. Yuen showed the impressions of our future campus in the sharing session. All the class coordinators appreciated the school enhancement project and gave positive and very useful feedback. However, Mr. Yuen also mentioned that the College does not have a strong direct connection with alumni and does not have a complete alumni database. Therefore, the project is a very good opportunity to unite everyone, including current and past students, parents, staff members and even the public, to get involved.

We need everyone’s support: not about how much you donate, but how much you care and contribute. SPC does not belong to rich or famous alumni only, it belongs to all members of St. Paul’s community – students, teachers, alumni, parents, Council. We hope and believe that everyone can find a way to contribute, with a common goal of building the College’s future.
